As many of you know I am moving to New York for the summer to work at Camp Lokanda, which is in the Catskills. My little sister is also working there as well. We decided that we'd drive across the country to camp and take our time to explore a bit of this amazing country that we live in.
Yesterday was day 1. We left Utah bright and early and took off on our grand adventure. We drove across Wyoming. It was not the prettiest drive, but we made it through. Once we got to South Dakota it started to get green and a lot more beautiful. Our main stop for the day was Mt Rushmore.
I will say that I was pleasantly impressed with Mt Rushmore. It was AWESOME!!! If you've never been before I highly suggest it. It's located in the Black Hills of South Dakota which are GORGEOUS! I honestly would love to go back and spend a few days in that area.
After Mt Rushmore we drove to the Badlands, which are about an hour and a half away. Along the way we stop in this random little town called Wall and ate dinner at the Badlands Bar. We were starving and had a delicious, not so healthy, meal of cheesy bread, onion chips (like onion rings) and a bacon cheeseburger with fries. So good!
We stayed in a small cabin at the KOA in the Badlands and were both in bed before 10:00pm! What an exhausting day!!! Now we are off to Nauvoo, Illinois....
