Spiritual Living Thought of the Week

Since it's Sunday I wanted to share a small spiritual thought. A few weeks ago I was sitting in a meeting at church and a man was at the pulpit giving a really good talk about standing tall, leaning forward and facing life with faith and fortitude. He gave a quote about Christ that I have been looking for and I found it today and wanted to share it.  When I heard it, it really touched my heart and made me think. It's from the book Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. If you haven't read this book, read it. It's amazing! I love C.S. Lewis' work and this book is my favorite of his. Here is what he said,

"No man knows how bad he is till he has tried very hard to be good. A silly idea is current that good people do not know what temptation means. This is an obvious lie. Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is. After all, you find the strength of the German army by fighting against it, not by giving in. You find out the strength of a wind by trying to walk against it not by lying down. A man who gives into the temptation after five minutes simply does not know what it would have been like an hour later. That is why bad people, in one sense, know very little about badness. They have lived a sheltered life by always giving in. We never find out the strength of the evil impulse inside us until we try to fight it; and Christ, because He was the only man who never yielded to temptation, is also the only man who knows to the full what temptation really means - the only complete realist."

I love that.  We all are fighting against our own temptations and weaknesses.  Whatever they may be, just remember that the more you fight against temptation, the stronger you will become.  We will never be perfect at resisting temptation.  What matters is that we try to fight it.

Also, here is a video to add some inspiration to your day. I love the message of this movie.  Happy Sunday!
