My Summer at Camp: YOLO!

Obviously I was not very good about keeping up with my blog this summer.  Last time I wrote we were just getting to camp and now I am back in Utah and ready to prepare for a whole new adventure.  Before that happens, I did want to write down a few thoughts about this summer.  I spent 8 weeks working at a camp in the Catskills of New York.  It was a co-ed summer camp of kids ages 6 to 17.  They come for the whole summer (seven weeks).  Most of them, if not all, are Jewish and come from New York and Florida.

My job at camp was the basketball and softball specialist.  I spent each day out in the sunshine teaching and playing basketball and softball.  The camp was on a lake and it was such a beautiful place.  The kids were crazy, but definitely grew on me and some of them I miss already!  They made me laugh a lot and taught me a greater deal about how to love each person and that inside all of us is a child that just wants to be loved.

I would have to say that my favorite part of camp was the friends I made with my fellow staff members. I already miss all of the accents of those from England, Scotland and Ireland.  I even made a few of the girls from the UK record their voices on my phone so I'd always have them.  We took many late night trips to Wal-Mart, the Creamery and to Wendy's, where we introduced our friends to Junior Bacon Cheeseburgers!  Camp was kosher, so it was always a delight to be able to eat bacon, and to eat meat and cheese in the same meal.

I'll never forget being in the car with Ashley, Charlotte, Helena, Amanda and Emma while singing at the top of our lungs to Wicked and Les Mes or running through Manhattan with Stephanie as our guide, taking us to the best Chinese food and Italian ice cream in the world!   Or sneaking to Sherman's for delicious sandwiches with Rob and Marissa and seeing three bears in the woods on our way back. Or sneaking into the wood shop for some proper Irish tea and cookies.  My memories of camp will always revolve around those friends that made my summer bearable and always put a smile on my face.  Thank you!!!
